LOCATION: This is a place of interest within the University of Maryland, College Park campus. The concrete and brick compass on the ground designates the center of the campus before the November 29, 1912 fire. That fire destroyed all of the school's records, and most of the academic buildings. The lines in the compass, marked by brick, point to buildings that were destroyed. Today, the nearby LeFrak Hall houses several academic departments. Among them is the Department of Geography. While those folks may know about maps and GPSes, they don't know about this cache. Another UM landmark, the Memorial Chapel, is a short distance away. And, if you are completing the Maryland Marathon cache, the McKeldin Library and the Mall are close by as well.
CACHE: Some will spot this quickly. Others may have to think about it and search. I hope, it is camo'd to fit the surroundings. Due to the buildings, there's a bit of GPS signal bounce. The posted coordinates will get you close enough to use your geo-sense. There is no room for anything but the log. Please bring a pen or a pencil to sign. Not recommended in the dark.
There could be very high muggle activity (hence, difficulty level 2) near GZ. Please use extreme stealth when retrieving and resetting the cache.
PARKING: Near-by streets have a few metered spots. Please do obey the posted signs in the campus parking lots. Most lots are free after 4pm, but I think, the Memorial Chapel lot still requires a UM permit between 4-8pm. Please read the signs carefully.
