Diabas Roßberg

Diabas ist vor allem im deutschen Sprachgebrauch ein durch metamorphe Umwandlungsvorgänge grünlich gefärbtes Ergussgestein, das meist variszischen Alters ist.
Diabas wird wegen seiner Farbe auch Grünstein genannt, er gehört mit dem Melaphyr (feinkörniges Gestein) in die Gruppe der so genannten Paläobasalte.
Diabase haben ein dichtes fein- bis mittelkörniges Gefüge.
Die Ausgangsgesteine des Diabases waren ursprünglich von tholeiit (dunkler, dichter Vulkanit)-basaltischer Zusammensetzung.
Die typische grünliche Farbe geht auf die Anchimetamorphose des Gesteins zurück, einer Vorstufe der Metamorphose.
Sie entsteht durch die Bildung von Chloriten (kristallisierende Minerale) und Hornblende (Silikat) aus Augit (Mineral) und die Umwandlung von Anteilen der Feldspäte (Silikat-Mineral) in Epidot (Mineral aus der Klasse der Silikate).
Der Calzit-Anteil (Kalk) der Plagioklase (Kristalle) wird zudem teilweise in freien Calzit überführt.
Paläopikrit-Diabas ist ein sehr silikatarmer Typ des unterkarbonischen Magmatismus.
Er ist nicht durch Übergänge mit den basischen Diabasen und Olivindiabasen des Deckdiabases verbunden und liegt intrusiv (das Eindringen von fließfähigem Material in bereits existierende Gesteinskörper) in devonischen Gesteinen.
Charakteristisch ist seine schwarzbraune, unregelmäßige genarbte Verwitterungsrinde (Farbe des frischen Gesteins: schwarzgrün).

An den genannten Koordinaten findest du einen mit X markierten kleinen Baumstamm.
Von hier aus geht es nun ca. 17 m bergab. Seil und was fürs runter wird hier benötigt!
Ein Helm ist zwingend erforderlich!
Hier findest du einen kleinen Aufschluss mit freigelegtem Diabas (Einkerbung in der Basaltwand), siehe Fotos.
Ca. weitere 3 m weiter unten hat man wieder festen Boden unter sich!

Diabase Roßberg

Diabase is particularly in the German linguistic usage a green colored effusive rock which was procedured by metamorphic transformations, which is usually of Paleozoic age .

Because of its color, Diabase is also called green stone, it belongs like the melaphyre (fine-grayned rocks) into the group of the so called paleozoic basalts.
Diabases have a close fine- to central-granular structure.
The output rocks of the Diabases were originally of tholeiite (dark and close volcanite) - basaltic composition.
The typical greenish color goes back to the anchimetamorphosis of the rock, a preliminary stage of the metamorphosis.
It results from the formation of chlorites (crystallizing minerals) and horn screen (silicate) from augite (mineral) and the transformation of portions of feldspars (silicate mineral) in epidote (mineral from the class of the silicates).
The calcite (lime) portion of the plagioclases (crystals) is also partly transferred in free calcite sometimes.
Paleozoic picrite diabase is a very silicate-poor type of the lower Carboniferous magmatism.
It is not connected by transitions with the basic diabases and olivine diabases of the deck diabases and lies intrusive (the intrusion of fluid material into already existing rock bodies) in Devonian rocks.
Its black-brown, irregular grained decomposition crust is characteristic (color of the fresh rock: black-green).

At the coordinates mentioned above you will find a X-marked small tree.
From here you will now have to go downwards for approx. 17 m.
Rope and something for the down is needed!
A helmet is compellingly necessary!
Here you’ll find a small outcrop with opened Diabase (indentation in the basalt wall), see photos.
Approx. 3 m further down you will find one’s feet again!
