Historique
Pont-viaduc à deux niveaux construit en 1903-1904 par l'ingénieur Louis Biette, avec l'architecte Camille-Jean Formigé, pour le franchissement de la Seine par la ligne circulaire sud du métro. L'ouvrage traverse le fleuve en diagonale, un portique monumental sur l'île des Cygnes le séparant en deux parties de longueurs inégales. Appelé à l'origine viaduc de Passy, il est réalisé par l'entreprise Daydé et Pillé. Deux groupes en fonte sculptés par Gustave Michel ornent les piles en maçonnerie. Le portique central est décoré de sculptures dues à Jules Coutan et à Jean-Antoine Injalbert. Les poteaux métalliques supportant le viaduc supérieur du chemin de fer métropolitain ont été modifiés en 1942 pour soutenir des rames plus lourdes ; les garde-corps du pont charretier ont été altérés à la même époque.

History Bridge(Deck) - Viaduct at two levels builds in 1903-1904 by the engineer Louis Biette, with the architect Camille-Jean Formigé, for the crossing of the Seine by the south circular line of the subway. The work crosses the river in diagonal, a monumental portico(gantry) on the island of Swans separating him(it) in two parts(parties) of uneven lengthes. Called originally viaduct of Passy, he(it) is realized by the company Daydé et Pillé. . Two groups in cast iron sculptured by Gustave Michel decorate piles in masonry. The central portico(gantry) is decorated with sculptures due to Jules Coutan and to Jean-Antoine Injalbert. The metallic posts supporting(bearing) the superior viaduct of the metropolitan railroad were modified in 1942 to support heavier reams(trains); the lifelines of the bridge(deck) carter were distorted(altered) at the same time.
