Geocache Description:

The cache is not located at the posted coordinates.

Please don't stop on the freeway.

I am the world's worst cacher. I actually expect a hide to be at the posted coordinates. I'm so stubborn and so trusting of other people's posted coordinates that I refuse to expand my search outside a 20 foot radius and end up with a lot of DNF's. When I finally find the cache after searching for the third or fourth time I usually find it a distance away from where Google Earth says the cache should be. Sound familiar?

So let's fix that. This puzzle cache uses a method that considerate cachers use to double check the GPS readings they take in the field when they place their hides.

To solve the puzzle and find the actual cache coordinates, look at the picture below and find it on Google Earth.(Hint: It's near the posted coordinates.)

Then using Google Earth, find the coordinates of the spot at the tip of the red arrow as depicted below:

Then check your results using the coordinate checker below.

Click to verify coordinates

Once you have verified your coordinates do the following calculation to your solution set:

SUBTRACT .059 from the latitude and ADD .037 to the longitude

to get the actual coordinates of where the cache is hidden.

Easy enough? Then go find the cache. Log only. Not available from sunset to sunrise. There are posted signs about arresting loiterers after dark. So beware!

Need help in using Google Earth? See the hint below.

Know of a better way to ensure accurate coordinates? Please post them in your log.

Caveat: This method doesn't work well in tree covered areas or urban canyons where there is no direct sight to the Sky satellites. But in open areas, you should have no excuses not to use this method of checking the accuracy of your coordinates.

Let's all strive for accuracy to make Geocaching more enjoyable for all of us!

Happy Caching!
