Volterra stands on a rocky hill some 1770 feet above the sea level, located between the rivers Bra and Cecina, and is surrounded by strong walls. The district is rich in alabaster.
In the Etruscan period, Volterra, called Felathri by the Etruscans and Volaterrae by the Romans, was one of the most important cities in the Etruscan Confederation.
Remains of the ancient surrounding walls, including the Etruscan Porta dell' Arco, may still be seen, as well as baths, an aqueduct, an amphitheatre and several Etruscan burial places.
Volterra is an important location in Stephenie Meyer's bestselling Twilight series. In the books, Volterra is home to the Volturi, a powerful coven of vampires.
The cache is a small watertight plastic container. A logbook and pencil are included.

Volterra, sorge su una collina rocciosa circa 1770 piedi sopra il
