Gowenhouse are
holding their annual event
"Picnic in the Park" on Sunday 12 July 2009
at the Tithe Barn, Bradford on Avon.
For those who would like to make a
weekend of it, come and camp with us at
Lower
Foxhangers, Rowde, Devizes, which is about ten miles (a 20
minutes drive) from the picnic venue. This is a small campsite, so
if you want to be guaranteed a pitch, please log a Will Attend as
quickly as possible. The campsite has toilets, showers and
dishwashing facilities, although they are a bit of a walk from the
camping fields (approx 40 yards). There are electric hook ups
available but they will no doubt be taken very quickly. The site
has two fields: one is set aside for tents and this is where most
of us will be. Caravans and campervans are of course permissible
but will be on the other field if requiring electric hook
up.
The event organisers
will be camping for just two nights: Friday 10 July and Saturday 11
July,
although if anyone wants to stay longer this can more than likely
be arranged.
Pitches
are £14 per night (extra £1.50 per night for electric hook up).
Smaller tents are £9 per night
according to their website. Bookings are being handled by the
campsite owners and you will need to
contact them directly.
The Kennet & Avon canal passes within 150 yds of the campsite,
and is situated at the bottom of the famous flight of
twenty-nine locks. The towpath at the side of the locks makes a
pleasant and varied walk to Devizes, which takes about half an hour
and has been resurfaced suitable for cycling between Devizes and
Bath.
This is a low key
camping event, set to complement the Picnic in the Park on the
Sunday. In order that this camping event may be open to everyone
and logable by anyone, you are invited to come along to the site on
Saturday evening from 6pm onwards and bring your BBQ and food if
you wish. Please log a Will Attend to that effect. Please
note: The arrangements for this may change in that if there are
a lot of non-camping cachers wanting to attend, we will need to
arrange something off-site, more than likely a pub meet on the
Friday night. All who have logged a will attend will be kept
informed of any changes through a note on this page and also
through an email to their GC.com accounts.
There are
approximately 130 caches within a 5 mile radius of the
campsite.
