Geocache Description:

In a town that never came to fruition. An unrealised dream.

Mootatunga was an idea for a retreat for Vietnam Veterans and was purchased from the govt by an association of interested vets called the Grunt Club..

In the early days (1992-3-4) a lot of activity was evident with a bush camp-site established and housing blocks sold to Vietnam vets. A lot of work went on in the early days with a track established and camp-sites defined with stones and a rudimentary long drop Australian toilet. An Anzac memorial was built in one of the quarries. Only one house was built in the housing section (John still lives there) and the camp-site became derelict. The dream never reached fruition.

In conjunction with the Mootatunga project was the town of Karte, which was bought by the Grunt Club in 1994 for non-Vietnam vets. Dave purchased a block there (he served in the Malaysian campaign) but due to differences within the Grunt Club, Karte never established and no titles were ever issued for the blocks paid for in Karte. Dave is still waiting for his title for his block he bought.

We go to Mootatunga several times a year and bush camp and love the peace and quiet in the Australian mallee.
Some photos I have taken of our camping at Mootatunga

The cache is a sandwich-sized snap-lock container
