Geocache Description:

This resort evolved from a throw away comment made by a colleague as he placed a collection of little treasures on my desk. ‘These guys need some help – why don’t you start a travel bug hotel’. And so from obscurity, they are set free to enjoy travel and clean, green open spaces.

Although the concept of green belts was first proposed back in the 1930s in the UK, it was much later that planning authorities brought the idea to New Zealand. A green belt is an area surrounding a city that has been designated by the city’s planners as a region for restricted development. The fundamental aim of green belt policy is to prevent urban sprawl and to retain areas of natural, undeveloped land where city dwellers can enjoy open spaces.
The stated objectives of green belt areas are to:
• protect natural or semi-natural environments
• ensure city folk have access to countryside
• improve air quality within urban areas
• provide educational and recreational opportunities

In Hamilton we have our very own green belt, which Hamiltonians can enjoy the many benefits of:
• walking, camping and biking close to the city
• habitat for native trees and plants and grazing for ponies
• tennis courts, a cycling track and soccer fields
There’s also a Marae and our beautiful Hamilton Gardens.

The green belt seems the perfect place to set up a resort for GCs and TBs. It’s clean and green and there are leisure activities aplenty -just what a travel-weary geocoin or travel bug needs for some rest and recreation.

Since the cache is dedicated to geocoins and travel bugs, please make sure you replace the container very carefully and with stealth, so as not to divulge the hide to any lurking muggles.
