Geocache Description:

Another cache in my Main Street series. This one is a few blocks off of Main Street, but reflects the spirit of the series.

A regular cache hidden by me and the volunteers at OIRM.

Click here for more information on the OIRM.

Located in the foothills of the Ozarks in Batesville, Arkansas, the museum preserves and presents the history of 12 counties that were part of Independence County in 1820: Baxter, Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Marion, Poinsett, Sharp, Stone, White, and Woodruff.

The building that houses the museum was constructed by the WPA in 1936 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been restored, and opened as a museum in 1998. Its interior architecture is expansive and modern. Its exhibits are interpretive and educational.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5 PM, Closed Sundays, Mondays, and legal holidays. If you find yourself having trouble finding the cache, just ask a volunteer and they should be able to provide a clue.

Take a minute to venture in to the museum and look at the exhibits on display. There is a small fee to tour the exhibits, but accessing the cache will require no money. If you have the chance, thank a volunteer for their time and effort they put forth to support the museum and for letting us have a geocache on the grounds.
