Tring Reservoirs sit at the highest level of the Grand Union Canal and supply water for the canal. The four reservoirs,Wilstone, Tringford, Startops End and Marsworth attract all kindsof wildlife and are recognised as one of the best sites in the region for wintering wildfowl. A National Nature reserve since 1955, the reservoirs were redesignated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1987. The reed beds hold breeding warblers and Reed Buntings in the summer. Autumn and spring migration can bring in some exciting birds making Tring Reservoirs worth a visit at any time of year. The area around the reservoirs is also rich in canal heritage with numerous locks and colourful narrow boats.
There are two pubs and a tearoom by the Startops Reservoir car park and other pubs in Marsworth village, Wilstone village and at Bulbourne. They all serve food and can be incorporated into this circular walk using footpaths round the reservoirs and canal towpaths.
This is a relatively quiet part of the walk, so you should be less bothered by muggles, but as ever, keep a beady eye out! I apologise unreservedly for this cache, I swore I would never hide another micro in an ivy covered tree. What can I say? I am weak.... Milton Keynes cachers should enjoy this one
