Geocache Description:

NEW LOCATION:

Easy Park and Grab, ideal for kids and grandchildren. Make sure you add the NUMBER of children/grandchildren you have.

DUE TO SOME COMMENTS ABOUT THE LOCATION WE HAVE MOVED THIS TO A MORE FRIENDIER SPOT. BETTER PARKING .

Cashman Park was acquired in 1970 through a land exchange between Jack Cashman and the City of Owatonna. The City exchanged land, which it owned west of the Rock Island Railroad, for eight wooded acres now known as Cashman Park, which is accessed from N.W. 26th Street.

The first use of this area for a recreational purpose occurred between 1975 and 1978 when the Tonna Bowmen Inc. used the park for an archery field range. Vandalism of the range in 1977 led to the eventual decision to discontinue the operation of the range.

During 1979, the City accepted from Mr. Cashman, outlots A and B in the Lismore Addition No. 2 as additional access points to the park. These ten feet wide outlots were donated primarily to provide pedestrians access to the park from 4th Avenue N.W. and 23rd Street N.W.

The Park and Recreation Department developed a hiking trail throughout the park, during 1988. Future plans call for Cashman Park to be a trailhead for a city-wide trail corridor.
