Their Bodies Rest Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ericles: Stopped by to check on the "Needs Maintenance" and found the area changed by vandals. Apparently someone has been sawing away at some of the branches of the trees. They managed to hack the one on which the cache was attached and most likely muggled it. They also sliced away at my backup location so I have to let this one go. I'm not sure why it's important to me that I keep a cache here but I'll most likely set a new one out if we re-establish a reoccurring event in the area. Hope everyone was able to appreciate the monument - despite it's condition!

Geocache Description:

A small cache designed to bring you to the long forgotten New Brunswick War Memorial.

Sometime in the early 1930s, the town of New Brunswick decided to erect a monument to those who gave their lives in service during The Great War. They decided on a prominent location just South of the newly built College Bridge. Had you stood there to watch the unveiling that day you would have hardly recognized the area. To the East, nothing but rolling hills. To the South, a traffic circle. To the West was a cemetery and in the distance, the only structure that could be seen was the Voorhees Chapel, part of the NJ College for Women.

Soon the great depression hit New Brunswick hard. It was followed by the second World War and with the expansion of US 1, the monument was all but forgotten - a blur at the side of the road. Now, with the nearby development you can find parking within a few dozen feet of the monument but the only visitors seem to be vandals. At one time a cross and several plaques decorated the memorial. Now the original inscription is all that remains and the only proof of its meaning lies in old tour books that have been out of print for decades.

The Fudd's Night Shift (ericles, Dollarbell, Musclemusher & mblatch) found this while exploring after a monthly Third Tuesday event. Dollarbell was able to dig up the information on the monument. If you know anything else about the monument please post it in your log! The cache itself is large enough to hold micro geocoins but not much else. Young children and dogs off leash are not recommended at GZ as the traffic on Rt 1 is considerable. Practice SSS - Safety first! Stealth will be your second priority. Then you can get your Smiley. Difficulty is set assuming no clue use as the clue is a spoiler.
