Geocache Description:

'The Telford Bookshelf' is located in an old abandoned quarry on Maddock's Hill, just next to the Wrekin. It involves a fairly gentle uphill from the parking location, with a short steel slope just before the cache. Some parts of the quarry can also get quite muddy, so boots and/or wellies are recommended.

The cache is an ammo box hidden near a rock-face on the south-east side of the quarry. The terrain shouldn't present anyone with too much difficulty, though it's not wheelchair-friendly.

The best parking location is at 52°40.610'N, 2°31.864'W. It's the old road into the quarry, which has now been sealed off, effectively turning it into a layby. Alternatively there's a proper carpark at the base of the Wrekin, from where you can walk along the road to this layby.

From the layby, follow the track up to 52°40.552'N, 2°31.698'W, the Quarry entrance. The track leeds straight up from here past an old gate, into the quarry and the cache.

If the track is too wet, there's an alternative way in at 52°40.486'N, 2°31.647'W, it's just over the mount of earth on the left of the track from here.

The quarry itself is a really beautiful location, and so far as i can tell is rarely visited by anyone (aside from a few Deer!). If the weather's good, I highly recommend bringing a picnic! I also recommend walking all the way through the quarry to the track on the other side, where you'll find a lovely area that's covered with Bluebells during the spring!

I've given this cache a book theme. The initial contents are all books registered on Bookcrossings. I'd like it if finders could swap books for books, and keep the Bookshelf's contents changing. The ammo box is fairly large, though there's only really room for smaller books (perhaps 2-300 pages). There's also a little room for a few other small swaps/TBs.

Also - since Geocaching is a family activity, please try not to leave any books that might cause offence!

The initial contents are:

The chronicles of Prydain: The Book of Three - Lloyd Alexander
Horrible Histories: The Terrible Tudors - Terry Deary
Worst Case Scenario Survival Handbook to University - Joshua Piven
The Warlord of the Air - Michael Moorcock
Star Wars: Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina
The Darwin Awards - Wendy Northcutt
The Devil Rides Out - Dennis Wheatley

Please let me know if the cache starts running low on books, and I'll top it up!
