Geocache Description:

Cache is placed near a little known historic location on Goose Creek in Bowers Hill.

I picked this location after a friend who works for the City of Chesapeake Parks and Recreation showed me this site.

During the Civil War, after the Seige of Suffolk, Union Troops moved to positions in and around Deep Creek, Bowers Hill and Portsmouth. Their intent was to protect the ports of Norfolk and Portsmouth. They accomplished this by constructing "Earthwork Forts".

Although not an "official" historical site, it is most definitely something to see! After getting to ground zero look around and you can see the manmade walls of the earthwork and in the center you can see a rounded area where gunpowder and other exposives would have been stored.

After doing some research, I believe I've found the constructors of this site. Visit (visit link) and do a search for Bowers Hill.
