Geocache Description:

The terrain rating is due to it not being wheelchair friendly.

The planes that you see parked nearby are North American AT-6/SNJ World War II vintage aircraft that belong to the Condor Squadron 135 flying club. They were formed back in 1967 by several members of the 146th Fighter Group as a search and rescue unit of the Civil Air Patrol and have been flying over the San Fernando Valley and else where in formations ever since. They frequently fly over parades and other events all around Southern California. You’ll notice that there are a few that have the German Luftwaffe insignia painted on them. This is for dog fight demonstrations for air shows and movies.

The AT-6 is more commonly know as the “Texan” was first developed as a trainer in 1935 as the NA-16 and was eventually modified up to the AT-6 or Advanced Trainer. Once pilots mastered the AT-6 they would they go on to more specialized training in fighters or bombers. The original first 500 of the new AT-6A aircraft were built at North American’s Inglewood , CA factory and then the production was moved to the new factories in Texas . This is how the aircraft got the nickname “Texan”.
