Geocache Description:

Cache near Germany's eldest vineyard.

The vineyard "Glöck" was first mentioned in a document from the year 742. With this it is the oldest vineyard in Germany.

This wine area with a size or 2.1 hectares lies below the Niersteiner St. Kilian church.
The name "Glöck" is derived from the German word "Glocke" that points to the nearby church's bell.

Today the vineyard "Glöck" belongs to the state-owned "Staatlichen Weinbaudomäne Oppenheim".
The location and the surrounding wall creates a microclimate that supports the growth of excellent wine.

Don't search at the historical wall!
