Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed here by GREYNOMADS and it has now been adopted by FREDD01. The cache is a mini-multi, with just two places to visit.

This multi-cache has been placed in and around Lake Tyers.

Background... Lake Tyers was named in 1843 after Captain C.J. Tyers RN, an early Victorian Surveyor-General. The Arms of this Lake were once described as "a giant centipede" with its wandering narrow arms. The shoreline is in excess of 370 Kms. Over 80% the natural shoreline vegetation has been maintained. Shallow mud-flats and sheltered waters provide much habitat for a large variety of bird and animal life. Much of the waterway has a depth of 6 metres, but some areas are in excess of 15 metres. The waterway could be termed an "in-land lake" for it is usually closed to the sea only spilling into Bass Strait when sufficient rains, usually late in spring, lift the water level anything up to 2.4 metres. At this time the sand barrier at the Ninety Mile Beach is breached and with a great rush, the now brackish water slices the sand away to release the sand to the sea.

The EMV (Electric Motor Vessel)"Rubeena" started cruising the Gippsland Lakes back in 1912. This elegant Edwardian style launch was built in Sydney, planked with New Zealand Kauri (one of the top boat timbers in the world), measuring 36 feet in over all length, with a beam of 10 feet. Although originally steam powered, then petrol, and then diesel, in 1993 she became Victoria's first completely electric powered vessel.

The cache is a mini-multi, with just two places to visit. The first co-ordinates will take you to the signboard infront of a brand new jetty. You will need to gather some information to work out Waypoint Two which is Ground Zero.

Waypoint Two/GZ can be found at S 370 50.ABC   E 1480 04.DEF

A, C and E = The number of rod holders on the very top of the horizontal beam at the eastern end of the jetty (walk straight DON'T turn)  minus the number of black and white jetty pillars on the LEFT side (as you stand with your back to the information sign).  Then, minus the number of black and white jetty pillars at the very end (go east AND turn the corner - if you sit on the END of the seat, you'll be facing the right direction).

A, C and E =  (rod holders - b&w pillars) - b&w pillars

B = the number of letters in the second name of this fishing place minus the number of black and white jetty pillars at the very end (go east AND turn the corner - if you sit on the END of the seat, you'll be facing the right direction).

B = no. of letters - b&w pillars

D and F = On the RIGHT side of the jetty (as you stand with your back to the information sign) count the number of rod holders attached to the vertical posts (NOT the horizontal top post)

D and F = no. of vertical rod holders

Checker:  add up all digits in each co-ord - S = 21 and E = 27

Ground Zero is a popular fishing and boating spot.  It can be busy at times particularly during holiday season, so take it carefully and replace the cache as you found it.
