Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed here by GREYNOMADS and it has now been adopted by FREDD01. The cache is a mini-multi, with just two places to visit.

This multi-cache has been created in a way that will give you a chance to experience different parts of the area of Lake Tyers.

Background... Lake Tyers was named in 1843 after Captain C.J. Tyers RN, an early Victorian Surveyor-General. The Arms of this Lake were once described as "a giant centipede" with its wandering narrow arms. The shoreline is in excess of 370 Kms. Over 80% the natural shoreline vegetation has been maintained. Shallow mud-flats and sheltered waters provide much habitat for a large variety of bird and animal life. Much of the waterway has a depth of 6 metres, but some areas are in excess of 15 metres. The waterway could be termed an "in-land lake" for it is usually closed to the sea only spilling into Bass Strait when sufficient rains, usually late in spring, lift the water level anything up to 2.4 metres. At this time the sand barrier at the Lake Tyres Beach township of the Ninety Mile Beach is breached and with a great rush, the now brackish water slices the sand away to be released to the sea.  As tidal movement kicks in, fresh sea water also flushes through the water way.

Lake Tyers State Park, on Krauatungalung Country, is highly significant to Gunaikurnai Traditional Owners due to its remarkable Aboriginal cultural heritage.  The Park area is culturally significant to the Gunaikurnai people and the water ways around the area are refered to 'Bung Yarnda' (Lake Tyres). It was a neutral place that was rich in food and materials.  It is an abundant place providing our first nations people with food all year round. And it is a beautiful place — you can see why the elders visited here. There are many recorded sites — scar trees, artefact scatters, birthing places and burial sites.  Lake Tyers State Park covers 7,100 hectares, extending from Lake Tyers Beach to Mount Nowa Nowa.

This cache will take you to two popular places around the Lake. The first co-ordinates will take you to very popular fishing spot.  You will find yourself at a signboard that stands infront of a new jetty. You will need to gather some information to work out Waypoint Two which is also Ground Zero.

At Waypoint One, gather the following information:

A, C and E = The number of rod holders on the very top of the horizontal beam at the eastern end of the jetty (walk straight DON'T turn)  minus the number of black and white jetty pillars on the LEFT side (as you stand with your back to the information sign).  Then, minus the number of black and white jetty pillars at the very end (go east AND turn the corner - if you sit on the END of the seat, you'll be facing the right direction).

A, C and E =  (rod holders - b&w pillars) - b&w pillars

B = the number of letters in the second name of this fishing place (this place is called "Fishermans ???")  minus the number of black and white jetty pillars at the very end (go east AND turn the corner - if you sit on the END of the seat, you'll be facing the right direction).

B = no. of letters - b&w pillars

D and F = On the RIGHT side of the jetty (as you stand with your back to the information sign) count the number of rod holders attached to the vertical posts (NOT the horizontal top post)

D and F = no. of vertical rod holders

Waypoint Two/GZ can be found at S 370 50.ABC   E 1480 04.DEF

Checker:  add up all digits in each co-ord - S = 21 and E = 27

Ground Zero is a popular fishing and boating spot.  It can be busy at times particularly during holiday season, so take it carefully and replace the cache as you found it.  The tree cover at GZ can play up with accuracy of your GPS at times too.
