This cache will take you to the Dryer Road Park / Fort Hill area in Victor. The coordinates shown are for the highest point on Fort Hill. They have nothing to do with the cache.
Imagine that you're standing on Fort Hill. Let's say you've got a slingshot, you find an appropriate stone, and you fire it south toward Rt. 41. Your assistant (you did bring one with you, didn't you?) video records this moment and calculates that you fired the stone at an initial speed of 41 meters/second at an angle of 48 degrees above the horizon. He or she also determines that the stone landed at a point 24 meters below it's starting point. Assuming no air resistance (and a gravitational constant** of 9.81 meters/sec/sec), you will need to find two numbers:
T = the time (in seconds) the stone was in the air
R = the horizontal range (in meters) the stone travels before hitting the ground
Once you have those numbers, the cache can be found at
N42 57.A W077 26.B where
A = T x 138 (rounded to the nearest integer) and
B = R x 2 (rounded to the nearest integer)
Now, don't you wish you stayed awake during that high school physics class?
The cache is quite near an existing trail. But be careful when leaving the trail, as we've seen old barbed wire in several places, including near the cache!
Dryer Road Park is open from dawn to dusk. Please do not attempt this cache during other hours.
You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
We were going to give a slingshot as a FTF prize, but we were concerned you'd hurt yourself (or someone else). So instead the FTF prize is a "Flingshot Flying Cow". Way better!
