Geocache Description:

Near historic site off highway.

This is a "new" cache taking the place of an older one which was archived. We stumbled upon it last week, not realizing there was once a cache here. We notified the original cache's owner and he indicated to us to remove his old one and set one up ourselves rather than have us adopt the old one. Thus the new one is nothing like the original. The original i.d. was GCP6DX. This is a national historic site as it was once the home of a Father of Confederation (Robert Duncan Wilmot). It was originally built in the late 1700's by the Bliss family. What gains this old house its notoriety amongst the locals is that it is supposedly haunted. There have been numerous stories of strange noises, poltergeists, ghostly apparitions and a basement with cells and chains in the walls for prisoners or slaves. See Stuart Trueman's book "Ghosts, Pirates, and Treasure Trove: The Phantoms That Haunt New Brunswick" 1975
