Micro cache hidden on the Observation Deck (also known as the Forest Boardwalk) at Lichterman Nature Center in Memphis, TN.
Lichterman Nature Center is a 65-acre haven of peace and quiet located in the middle of east Memphis. It includes 3 miles of nature trails which wind around a beautiful lake and through dense woods. The Visitor Center houses exhibits about the plants and animals native to the area. The Backyard Wildlife Center provides a variety of living and interactive exhibits about the three distinct habitats represented at the Nature Center - lake, meadow, and forest.
THE CACHE IS NOT LOCATED AT THE LISTED COORDINATES!
The coordinates listed take you to the Nature Center's entrance which is located at 5992 Quince Road in Memphis, Tennessee. When you go into the Nature Center stop at the front desk (you have to pass it when you walk through the doors!) and tell the staff at the desk that you are geocaching. They will give you a sheet of paper with the coordinates of all caches in the Lichterman Nature Center. That is the only "puzzle" associated with this cache. The staff may even wish you luck! You might want to grab a free trail map while you are there.
A few things you should know and a couple rules you should follow. The good folks at the Nature Center do not want you bushwhacking, so don't. It is not necessary. Watch for muggles everywhere! Please put everything back the way you found it. All of the caches are located within the boundaries of the Nature Center.
The Lichterman Nature Center is open on Tuesday through Thursday from 9 am until 4 pm and on Friday & Saturday from 9 am through 5 pm. You will have to hunt these caches during those hours. There is an admission fee of $6 per adult to enter except on Tuesdays from 1 pm until 4 pm when admission is free!
DESIGNED FOR WARM WEATHER!
This is one of several caches placed in Lichterman Nature Center in late Spring, 2009. All of these are designed to be good caches to hunt when the weather is warm. No bushwhacking is needed although you will be in the forest. No geese should be in this area. There will be bugs but you are very unlikely to encounter snakes or poison ivy where the cache is hidden.
THE OBSERVATION DECK
From the Visitor Center this is a walk on a paved sidewalk and onto a platform with a wooden walkway.
Easily reached by walking through the Backyard Wildlife Center, the Deck gives you a chance to view the action on the forest floor below. The cache can only be reached from the Deck which consists of a wooden walkway with an observation area at the end. There is no need to go below the Deck when seeking this micro cache and the Nature Center staff would prefer that you not wander around down there anyway (so please abide by there wishes). Bring your own pencil!
Note that the difficulty rating takes into account the fact that this park has limited access hours and an admission fee (except one afternoon each week).
The difficulty rating also takes into consideration the fact that the tree cover gives your GPS'r a hard time around here. The coordinates were obtained by averaging more than 500 times with a Garmin 60CSx. And the readings were taken on two different days. Nevertheless, on subsequent visits I found the GPS'r did not give me the best results on some days. Use your caching experience and look in obvious places.
The hint is a dead giveaway on this one. You will want to use insect repellent during warmer months. Each cacher must sign the log individually.
THE CLUE
In this cache container is one of the clues needed to find another cache, GC1QV2R. Please make note of the clue and REPLACE THE CLUE IN THE CACHE CONTAINER WITH THE LOG.
