The village of Perdue has less than 400 residents but appears to
have two main streets - one south of the railroad tracks and one
north of the railroad tracks. This was due to conflicting ideas of
where the village should be built, according to a history posted on
the village's website. Apparently the CPR wanted the town entirely
north of the railroad tracks, but the land south had already been
subdivided and built on by families and businesses. In an effort to
limit unwanted settling the CPR erected an eight-line barbed wire
fence, which residents to the south made sure to sabotage.
Perdue is known as the home of E-Zee Wrap, which occupies a
large building on the main drag south of the railroad tracks. It is
also home of one of the fullest used bookstores I've ever seen
(located on the main drag north of the railroad tracks)!
