Geocache Description:

Back to the basics in Waimea West.

No alpha, beta or binary! No puzzles, pictures or hidden agendas! No technicolour, wide screen or stereophonic sound GPS! No Google, Giggle or otherwise!

However, it would pay to know the difference between true and magnetic bearing, the projection function on your GPS or at the very least how to read a compass. Remember, the bearing is the direction you should go.

All you need is a basic GPS that will project a new Waypoint from a known location by using distance and bearing and a simple calculator that will add, subtract, multiply and divide. Calculator? Read on and you will know why.

If your GPS does not do projections, a basic magnetic compass will send you off in the right direction; however, a bit of trial and error travel may be necessary.

Note: With this cache, all co-ordinates are magnetic, so if you are using a map of any kind, be careful.

Go to the above co-ordinates. Waypoint #1. You will find a small "blue and white" number on the entrance of one of Nelson's culinary icons. Divide the "blue and white" number by 45.6521 for the distance (km) and multiply the "blue and white"number by 1.41946 for the magnetic bearing to project the co-ordinates from your present location at Waypoint #1 to get to Waypoint #2.

Waypoint #2 Can't miss this one. Count the number of vertical "wood only" handrail supports on just one side. Subtract 55.77 from the number of supports for the distance(km) and add 28.79 to the number of supports for the magnetic bearing to project the co-ordinates from your present location at Waypoint #2 to get to the Final Waypoint

TOTAL travel time from Waypoint #1 to the Final Waypoint....10minutes. You should be able to complete the cache in 30 minutes.

Note: The Waypoints are large enough to compensate for any GPS projection variations.

Watch out for passing muggles. Please carefully rehide.

The cache is our usuall camo painted screw top container with log book, pencil etc. and a number of tradeables.

Have fun!
