Geocache Description:

CAUTION!!!! Caution: Don't climb down into the crater...the container is not there.

It’s not much to look at, but it definitely is a volcano. It is located near the junction of the Eagle and Colorado Rivers along Interstate 70. As a matter of fact, I-70 was built over the lava flow, which can be seen on the south side of I-70 just east of the Dotsero exit. The last eruption was around 2200 BC and the lava flow changed the path of the river.

The narrow road to the volcano is very rocky and steep in sections and has eroded a lot since the cache was placed, so I am recommending a 4WD vehicle, especially in fall/winter. I have changed the Terrain setting accordingly. There is some light truck traffic, so watch the tight corners. No need to get too close to the edge at the cache site. There is no official parking area, so your best bet for parking will be at the south end of the cable.

If reaching into dark crevices or blind openings makes you uncomfortable PLEASE wear gloves. BYOP.

CAUTION: DON'T ATTEMPT TO CLIMB DOWN INTO THE CRATER. THE CONTAINER IS NOT IN THE CRATER!! (...although the container is on the crater side of the fence)
