Geocache Description:

We chose the theme of this cache to get people to see a bit of local history first hand. This is hopeful one of many local history caches we are working on. We hope you enjoy this spot.

Coronation Bridge so named because it was opened in 1911, the year of King George V's Coronation, this bridge replaced an earlier wooden bridge over the Opanuku Stream and remained in use for over fifty years. The remains of other road and rail bridges may be seen in the vicinity.

We suggest if you have the time to spare head up the hill a little and visit the gallery. It's free and showcases local artworks. The whole site is worth exploring with the original St Michaels Church well restored and surpises all over the place.

See map of the trails here: (visit link)

We've marked it wheelchair accessible and you can get right to GZ but reaching the cache might require assistance.

Cache 900ml Round Screwtop - Black. GZ is a short distance from the old bridge on the new bridge under the rail bridge. Confused???

May not be great at night due to little lighting and street kids frequenting the area.
