Geocache Description:

Cache is a regular sized lock and lock container with the usual swap goodies, logbook and pen, hidden on the hill within the grounds on the recently erected wind farm in Glen Devon.

The Green Knowes Wind Farm is a collection of 18 wind turbines within the very high central Ochil Hills and created quite the stir when the planning application was finally granted on 13th June 2006. Each turbine is 93 metres high from the ground to the blade tip and produces a maximum output of 1.75 megawatts of power, a total output of 35.5 megawatts. Enough clean green energy to power 15000 homes.

The journey to the cache site is quite a walk. Probably around 2 miles but with extremely steep gradient. The walk starts at the entrance to the wind farm as you cannot drive beyond the gates. Following the pathway to the monitoring building, there is a small worn out path on the hill itself heading directly up to the summit. While placing I continued up the path thinking there would be an easier way up. There isn't. The route I took was quite dangerous and I wouldn't recommend it. The worn path will still get you to the summit, to the cache and to the number 18 turbine so you will still experience the same views.
The views themselves are outstanding. There is clear views down all the valleys within the Ochil Hills. You can see the summits of most of the hills with this one being the 2nd or 3rd highest, including Ben Cluech, Beld Hill, Innerdownie Hill, Glen Sherup and on a good day, The Knock in Crieff.
Please ensure you wear the correct footwear for the job. On the day of placing, I wore trainers and although I made it to the top, the journey down was...interesting.

There is enough parking at the gates for two cars but please do not exceed this number as the main area of the gates need to remain clear for the required 24 hour access. If needed there is a small car park across the road at the Glen Devon Church.

Please upload a photo at the summit. This is a request only and not required to log your visit.

Please also ignore the name I wrote inside the log. On the way up I thought the sign read Glen Devon Wind Farm. On the way down I discovered it was actually called the Green Knowes Wind Farm
