Guidelines:**You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.**

Geocache Description:

An interesting cache.

Cogden Gill Level is on the east bank of Cogden Gill. It was driven in 1861 to go under the Grinton How Smelt Mill towards the main lead veins either side of Lemon Gill Beck. The intention was that it would hit the main veins at a much lower level than the current workings, which then had almost come to a standstill because of flooding. From working the veins above the water table, large reserves of lead were likely to be down at the lower levels. This level was more of a drainage adit. By 1869 the level still hadn't had it intended drainage effect and the mine was closed. The water authorities still monitor the flow of water leaving the level.
