This is a regular sized cache hidden in a wooded section of Horsell Common.
This traditional cache can be found on the edge of Horsell Common, a large area of open countryside in North West Surrey. A popular walking place and also an ideal place to exhaust the children or exercise the dog! Paths can be muddy during winter and access is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. Tree cover may impact your GPS receiver at times! Horsell Common is many things: It's a wonderful habitat for wildlife; It's a home to Bronze Age Barrows and to a former Muslim Burial Ground; It's the place where HG Wells' Martians landed; however, most of all it is 830 acres of green space, maintained for the benefit of all and for the conservation of the animals and plants that live here. On Horsell Common you will find lots of woodland, heather, ponds and open space. It is a great place to walk and explore in all seasons. Originally Horsell Common was part of Windsor Great Park and was known as King's Waste, until, like most of the Park, it eventually passed into local ownership. The owner was the Lord of the Manor of Pyrford, the Earl of Onslow, who allowed it to be used by the local residents for grazing, firewood collection and open recreation, while making an income from the sandpit and forestry. Lord Onslow leased the common to a charity in 1947 to preserve access to all and the freehold was finally purchased in 1966 for £1,634. It is not far from minor roads. There are multiple paths you can take to reach the destination and so you will need to follow the directions given by your GPS receiver. Refreshments can be found in Horsell Village and two miles further afield is the town of Woking with all the usual facilities of a modern town including a fast train connection to London Waterloo. Happy hunting and enjoy your search.
