Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Sydney's first Night Cache located on the North Shore. Chatswood specifically.

This cache is best attempted at night for maximum effect, but due to the tree cover, you could also attempt this in late afternoon and dusk.

The ridge below the Pacific Highway was once covered in massive Blue Gum and Blackbutt trees. As you walk take notice of the remnant Blue Gum High Forests.

Once in Ferndale Park, you will see ferns and other plants that love moist conditions in the closed forest along Swaines Creek.

Hidden behind suburban streets, Ferndale Park provides a bush backyard for local residents and wildlife. The walk along the fern-clad Swaines Creek reveals a quieter, more peaceful side of Chatswood.

Using your GPSr, navigate your way to the posted coordinates. Once there, put your GPSr away as you will no longer require it.

Now, arm yourself with your trusty torch. Have you remembered to pack some spare batteries just in case?

Clearly, you have to go forwards. So, bearing this in mind, stand with your torch at eye height and pass the torch beam in a steady up and down motion in an arc in front of you until you spot the reflective tack. Once sighted, move on to that location and repeat the same process. You may need to move about a few metres as the vegetation may hinder your ability to spot the reflective tacks.

Generally, you need to remain on the path. So, whilst in parts the path may snake its way about, seek further ahead with your torch to locate the spot you need to be at.

Once you locate a double pair of tacks, you are at the last loaction before the Cache. From this location, the cache is at 90° from your direction of travel. Proceed to this final spot and the cache is an easy find. You are after an ammo box.

WARNING: At times the path may become narrow and drop away to the creek below. Please execise extreme care and caution when attempting this cache in the presence of minors or those that have problems with their balance.
