Geocache Description:

The object of this series is to follow or walk where possible the slate train from Penrhyn Quarry down to Port Penrhyn, this section of the slate train is a short up and down walk, walking under some of the bridges, but you can continue down the track to the last two cache sites of the slate train, part 4 The Viaduct and part 5 The Port, End of the line.

Suggested parking at N53 11.387 W004 05.440. From the car park walk down the village to N53 11.431 W004 05.768, where you will join the cycle track, Lon Las Ogwen and walk along a railway line, at various stages of the walk it is possible to still see parts of the Penrhyn Narrow Gauge Line, and as a short detour, once you have gone under the first bridge just beyond the brow of the hill opposite a cottage on your right, you will see a small wooden foot bridge on your left, cross the bridge and turn left where you can have a short walk back on part of the old Penrhyn slate line, walk up stream where you will cross the little stream over a large slate slab, go through a galvanized gate, and cross the bridge, take a left turn and head back down on to the main path, continue with your walk down the track heading for the cache site. If you have decided to continue down to stage 4 The Viaduct, and 5 The Port, End of the Line.

This stage is wheelchair accessible, but has a couple of short little hills, don’t take the detour.
