Penrhyn Slate Train: 4, The Viaduct Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

The object of this series is to follow or walk where possible the slate train from Penrhyn Quarry down to Port Penrhyn, this stage takes you along a viaduct, and from the cache site, have a look at the workmanship of the brickwork.

This part of the route which runs between Port Penrhyn and the village of Glasinfryn, and was developed in the 1980's and is also known as Lôn Bach. the disused narrow gauge railway upon which the path was built, was constructed by the Penrhyn Estate to transport slate from the quarries at Bethesda for export at Port Penrhyn. By today, Lon Bach is part of Lôn Las Ogwen which continues south on its 6.5 kilometre (4 mile) journey, stretching lazily over the viaduct at Glasinfryn, and sloping gently from there on to the village of Tregarth and continuing up to the Quarry and on to The Ogwen Valley, you can join the track from the footpath in the village of Glasinfryn, parking may be a difficult but you can park on the housing estate, or for the cachers that have come for a bit of a walk or cycle, you could continue down from stage 3, The Bridges or up from stage 5 The Port, End of the line.
