BC Wildlife Park History
On February l5, l965 Park found John Moelaert, proposed to the
chamber that a zoological facility located in Kamloops would be an
attraction for both residents and visitors alike.
The Kamloops Chamber of Commerce felt that Kamlooops was a
“one-night stop’ and needed more attractions so that visitors would
stay longer and benefit the economy.
On February 11, 1966 Molson’s Breweries officially donated 106
areas of land to be used “perpetuity” as a wildlife park.
On August 16, 1966 the first exhibits were opened to the
public.
In 1986 the BC Wildlife Park attained national status when it
received accreditation from the Canadian Association of Zoos and
Aquariums.
The BC Wildlife Park is a not for profit society dedicated to
conservation, wildlife rehabilitation and education.
Services include gift shop, children’s zoo, Miniature train,
approx. 65 species including big cats, birds of prey bears, wolves,
bison, deer and reptiles and spectacular photographic
opportunities.
Services also include the Kamloops RV Park which is located
right next door.
The Wildlife Park is open year round for the enjoyment of
all.
