Out of respect for the church--and to avoid detection by large numbers of muggles!--this cache is not recommended on Sunday mornings.
Bethany Lutheran Church has been "A Light on the Prairie" along Muck Creek south of Spanaway for more than a hundred years. It got its start as a place of worship for former Hudson's Bay Company employees and Norweigan immigrant farmers, and has humbly served its local community ever since. It's been remodeled several times over the years, but many of its earliest members still rest in the cemetery behind the current building. If you take a walk through the headstones, you'll find dates going well back into the 19th century.
The marked coordinates of this cache will take you to a monument built a few years ago by a local Boy Scout Troop, commemorating the church's place in local history. Nearby you'll also find a wayside exhibit explaining the church's history in more detail. WAYPOINT 1 takes you to the monument celebrating Bethany's centennial. The monument was dedicated on October AB, CDEF and built by Scout Troop XYZ. Based on these numbers, you will find waypoint 2 at N 47º 0Y.DFE, W 122º 2A.CXC.
WAYPOINT 2 is a traditional camoflaged cache container. Along with the coordinates of waypoint 3, this container also contains a GEOTOOL, which you will need to retrieve the final cache container.
WAYPOINT 3 is the final cache, a small container large enough for small items, coins, and travel bugs.
When you have signed the log, please return the GEOTOOL to its home in waypoint 2. All three waypoints can be reached within a very short walk of the same parking spot, and in fact, only waypoint 2 is not quite wheelchair-accessible.
