Geocache Description:

I was going to call this geocache “Traumatized Tankengines”, but then I decided that Tankengines are never traumatized. - Still, the Tankengines are in a dilemma! There are 9 tankengines (numbered 1-9) haphazardly parked in the train yard, and Tankengine #1 (The red one) needs to get out.

Now, to get it out, you obviously need to move the other Tankengines out of the way. To do that, they need to be driven backwards and forwards. (They cannot come off their tracks). Clearly, to be driven, they need to have drivers. Now, when drivers are called in to move their trains, they get angry, so it would be best to call in as few drivers as possible.

You can only move one train at the time. However, at times, two or more trains could technically be moved in any order to release the next train – in this situation, you need to move the lowest numbered train first! A move can consist of one or more squares, but must end if the train hits a wall, or another train.

To determine the starting coordinates, you need to determine how to get the red Tankengine out in the fewest possible moves, with the fewest drivers. Write down the moves in the grid below. For example, if you move Tankengine 9 first, write a 9 under the first move square.

Once you have filled out all the moves, substitute the Tankengine numbers with the bold move numbers in the coordinates below, to reveal the actual starting coordinates of the cache. ie replace the bold 5 with the Tankengine# you moved on your fifth move, etc...

S 35° 54.225 E 148° 69.152

Of course, that is only the beginning of the fun – go to the start location to find instructions on how to get to the cache itself!

There are nice views along the way. Do not cross any fences/gates to get to the first waypoint, but the final location may require crossing one rusty old fence.
