A trip round Long Preston, in the West Riding of Yorkshire
Val is a very dear friend of ours, who is also a Linedancer, and to
celebrate her coming the ripe old age of 70 we thought we would
place a few caches for her, in the village where she was brought
up, and lived for all her teenage years. Her parents used to run
the village shop, but it has now been turned into a private
dwelling. By the way, she would love to be a cacher, but the
pacemaker stops her from walking too far these days. She tells us
she has no sense of direction either. She was once an avid walker,
and often talks of the walks she did, while living in Long Preston.
This is a very picturesque place to live and go to school.
Long Preston is a small village in Craven, North Yorkshire, and
boasts a May Pole, two Pubs, a Church, a railway station, and is
also the home of the original Rohan travel and outdoor gear shop.
The village benefits from several large, tree lined, village
greens, with many footpaths leading direct to the surrounding
hills. Long Preston has just over three hundred households, and is
a friendly community with many residents working in the village, as
well as commuting to the neighbouring towns. The annual May Day
celebrations are a popular event, with maypole dancing on the
village green, and stalls and displays on the village and school
playing fields We do hope that you all enjoy you little subjoin
round this excellent village. One of the places where Val used to
walk, and there used to be a seat near here for her to sit on and
take in the scenery.
