Geocache Description:

FIN: Helppo multikätkö, joka vie tutustumaan entisen Haimoon myllyn paikkaan, patoaltaaseen ja kalaportaaseen. Mylly tuhoutui tulipalossa 1.9.2024.

ENG: Easy multicache which introduces former place of Haimoo's Mill, basin of the dam and fish ladder. The cache box is 0,75 litre plastic container.

FIN Kylän läpi virtaava Vihtijoki on merkittävä osa Haimoon maisemaa. Joen varrella on ollut aikaisemmin monenlaista yritystoimintaa, mm. mylly ja vaneritehdas. Annetut koordinaatit vievät vanhan myllyn luo. Mylly toimi vesivoimalla ja sinne tuotiin jyviä jauhettavaksi hevoskyydillä pitkienkin matkojen takaa. Myllyn toiminta loppui jo vuonna 1974, mutta puinen myllyrakennus ja 3 metriä korkea myllypato olivat paikalla 1.9.2024 saakka, jolloin mylly tuhoutui öisessä tulipalossa.

Vihtijoki on luokiteltu lohi-ja siikapitoiseksi vesistöksi. Kalakantaa ylläpidetään vuosittaisilla taimenistutuksilla ja koskipaikkojen kunnostustalkoilla. Vuonna 2008 myllypadon vieritse rakennettiin yhdessä Virtavesien hoitoyhdistys Virhon ja kyläläisten yhteisvoimin kalatie, jotta joessa nousevat taimenet ja harjukset pääsevät helpommin ylävirtaan kutemaan. Kalaportaalla voikin nähdä ylävirtaan nousevia kaloja. Aikaisemmin yleiset loikat padon suuntaan ovat nykyään harvinaisempi näky. Joen luonteesta johtuen kalastus on kielletty kaikkialla virta- ja koskipaikoissa.

ENG River Vihtijoki runs through Haimoo village. In the coordinates above you'll find an old water mill at the riverbank of Vihtijoki. Activity of the mill ended in the year 1974. However the old wooden building still existed at the riverbank until 1st of September 2024 when the mill burned down in the nightime fire. 3 meters high damn barrage still exists there.

In the year 2008 a fish ladder was built by Virho association and villagers to help trouts and graylings to pass the barrage and to get upwards the river. Nowadays it's more unusual to see fishes jumping towards the barrage, instead lot's of them can be seen at the fish ladder. It's not alloved to fish in stream or rapid parts of Vihtijoki.

There is a blue sign with two words at the zero point. You can find out the place for the cache by calculating the number of letters of both words in the sign. This is number X.
