Kalter Kaffee: Meinl Mühle / Cold Coffee: Meinl Mill
Geschichte / History
Du stehst nun unmittelbar vor einem Gebäude welches noch bis vor kurzen die Aufschrift „Kunstmühle Julius Meinl Donnersdorf“ trug.
Der Name wurde zwar mittlerweile übermalt dennoch besaß ein Ur-Ahne der heute noch existierenden Kaffee – Dynastie diese Mühle inklusive einem, für damalige Zeiten riesigen, Flusskraftwerk.
In den umliegenden Gebäuden lebten und wohnten die Arbeiter. Julius Meinl selbst wohnte in einem Schloss im jetzigen Slowenien und, nach mündlicher Überlieferung, besuchte die Mühle oft per Pferd.
Neben dem Mahlen von Getreide wurden auch Essiggurken erzeugt/angebaut.
Warum wurde diese Mühle eigentlich aufgelassen?
Diese Frage kann man sehr leicht beantworten: Die fehlende Anbindung an die Bahn. Julius Meinl musste das gemahlene Getreide per Pferd zur nächsten Bahnstation bringen lassen (damals Weixelbaum).
... vielleicht würde er ja heute hier Kaffee rösten und mahlen?
Leider wurden die meisten Geräte im Gebäude vor einiger Zeit entfernt. Einige Maschinen sind allerdings noch im Gebäude verblieben und der jetzige Besitzer will das Flusskraftwerk reaktivieren.
You are standing in front of a building which was also known as „Kunstmühle Julius Meinl Donnersdorf“.
The label (above the entrance) was covered with paint some time ago. A relative of the current existing coffee dynasty built this mill and a powerful power plant.
In the surrounding buildings the workers of the mill lived. Julius Meinl instead lived in a castle not far away which now belongs to the country Slovenia. He visited this mill on a regular basis.
Why was this mill abandoned?
This question is very easy to answer: There was no direct way to transports goods by public transport (railway). They had to move the goods with horses to the next train station (which was Weixelbaum).
…. Maybe he would process coffee nowadays?
Unfortunately most of the tools and machines were removed some time ago. The current owner of this mill plans to build a new power plant.
