Star*Hopper: Sorry to the few that haven't logged it yet, but time to finally shut down this Event. We had 33 attendees on the sign-in; it sure looked & sounds like everyone had a great time. Thanks for all the great feedback....it was you guys who made it the success it was! Hoping I can make the 2d Tour Event even better - Thanks for coming!!

Geocache Description:

A breakfast event to kick off 2 new series of caches following our recently completed Civil War Battles Driving Tours; as well as a formative effort to start up a local caching club.

_/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/ _/

We will begin the day with an 8am breakfast buffet ('Dutch Treat') at the Golden Corral, followed by a presentation of what geocaching is, & caching tips for the newcomers.

Experienced cachers are asked to come prepared to give a brief, 1 or 2 minute presentation about something they have learned about the hobby that would benefit 'newbies'. Geocoin/Travel Bug holders are encouraged to bring at least a few for discovery & demo purposes.

During the presentation, the new Driving Tours series will be announced. Brochures with maps and driving instructions, as well as a list of the new cache coordinates (Pre-publication!) will be given out to attendees. There are two tours, each consisting of 12 'stops' - we are still working on whether to do one or both at this event, or save the 2nd for another event in the near future - stay tuned!

We will also ask for experienced volunteers to 'adopt' a family or individuals to follow them thru the new series, and basically "show them how it's done" as part of the mentoring activities.

For pre-event publicity, those who receive Kinston's TACC-9 station can watch for a special show in the works, on geocaching & this event. If plans develop, we will be able to replay the show at the breakfast, for those who miss the broadcast.

We need to know how much space we will need to reserve, and to keep Golden Corral's management aware, so PLEASE sign up early, advising how many adults & children in your immediate group to plan for.

Remember to check back by this listing at least weekly; in case of changes we will make adjustments as they occur.
Travel safely, & looking forward to seeing you there!!

NEWS UPDATE:
We're partnered with the 'Discovery Education Network' (DEN) to tie in with their special Geocaching Day program. They'll be sending 'goodies' we plan to use as door prizes! Special Thanx to Lee of 2Jolly & Diana or TatorTOTT for this Win-Win addition!!

MORE NEWS: I've got another special addition en-route even as I write this! I've designed and ordered some very special COMMEMORATIVE BUTTONS for both tours, and the graphics turned out much better than I expected. Take a look at the Gallery if you're curious - I've just uploaded the proof images I received & approved. The button-maker says these WILL be COLLECTIBLE....so I'm very pleased to hear that.
QUANTITIES WILL BE LIMITED - SO SIGN UP EARLY!!

Haven't got them yet, but reports are that we'll have at least a couple of unactivated geocoins to give away. Travel Bugs too. SWEET!!!

~MORE NEWS~ Update - Memorial Day
We've received a very nice donation from Coins and Pins! (coinsandpins.com)

First we have a Ft. Sumter Benchmark coin "Where the Civil War Began" with inset "Jewels";
Next, an Outer Banks Lighthouse Benchmark coin with inset "Jewels";
Another coin - looks like a Sanibel (possibly lighthouse) Benchmark;
A travel slug and a travel ingot. These 2 are new to me but they're golden and on golden chains and trackable!
A "GPS Satellite X-ing" pin, also trackable;
and finally a Coins and Pins lanyard.
Kudo's to Coins and Pins, and TEHI who secured these fine additions for our event!

SITE UPDATE:
Since our attendance has grown so well, Golden Corral is giving us a 'private room' for our affair. Cancel any previous verbal instructions I might have given you -- and when you enter the restaurant, go LEFT from the register area, & our room is in the back corner of the main dining area. Look for signs!!
