What better way to remember D-Day and all those involved than by raising a glass in their honour.
The Sidmouth Arms Pub is located in Upottery near the Airfield made famous by the series 'Band of Brothers'.....Upottery Airfield was the staging point for the 101st airborne Division 'The Screaming Eagles' for their involvement in the D-Day landings....Fleets of C47's and gliders ferried them over to Normandy from this very Area. The USAAF Station Code for Upottery was 462, ID Code: "UO". It was from Upottery that Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, U.S. 101st Airborne Division, also known as the "Band of Brothers". boarded Douglas C-47 Skytrain transports and made their first combat jump into Normandy on 6 June 1944.Some of these men didnt make it to the drop zone and were lost to enemy ground fire enroute.there is a local memorial to these men just up the road from the pub.
We will be meeting on the Saturday 6th of June 2009 from 7pm onwards and there will be food available up until 9pm. We have reserved tables for 10 people so please let us know if you want one of them. The pub has said they will be able to cater for more people on spec if neccessary.
As its D-Day we thought it might be a good idea if we had a loose theme based based on military attire or 40's fashion and the pub is aware of this and we will be playing some war time tunes in the pub.
Dogs are allowed inside and outside the pub.
The co-ords are for the carpark entrance, with plenty of room for cars.
A series of caches has been set and will be released the morning of the event. The caches will take approximately 5 hours to complete if you fancy trying them all.
We hope to see you there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have just discovered there is an event going on at the airfield on the day so if you dont fancy the caches you could take a peek at that!
