Geocache Description:

Another cache along the Staffs & Worcs Canal.

The best place to park is by our "Really SideTracked - Tettenhall" cache where there is a good parking area but you need to make note of the time they lock the gate, from here you can access the Railway Walk and the Staffs & Worcs canal, currently 9 of our new caches are to the south and 3 are to the north along with a couple of others near-by. Suitable for cyclists and dog walkers and not a cow in sight.

There used to be a display board around here with some history about the lock but it seems to have disappeared but there is a plaque on the road bridge that states that the first lock to be built in the Midlands was at Compton. James Brindley was the Engineer and work began in 1768 and the canal was navigable from Stourport as far as Compton Lock by 1770 finishing at Great Haywood and was officially opened in November 1772.

1 May 10 ~ Maintenance visit to replace missing cache box, you're now looking for a 1kg Large Fruit Pot container.

22 Jul 12 - Cache replaced for the final time: you're still looking for a 1kg Large Fruit Pot but it's now in a camo bag.
