Geocache Description:

Reduced the terrain rating as there is now a trail to the point. Cache located above high tide line.

This cache can be accessed also by walking the beach, but go on a falling tide to give you ample time. The hike from the end of the road will take you about forty minutes return. I would not recommend taking small kids on the shoreline route as it is very rocky and slippery. If you access this cache by boat be aware the shoreline is very rocky.

GPS will bounce around due to trees.

The best place to start hike from is the end of Ledge Point Main (lots of parking space N 50° 36.210, W 127° 05.494). There is a sign that marks the start of the trail. Some of this road is quite pot holed, but has recently been brushed out. You can drive to the end and park (ensure you leave room for vehicles to pass).

The easiest way to Ledge Point Main is to travel out of Port McNeill on Highway 19 towards Port Hardy, just past the Orca Sand and Gravel Operation take a short gravel road to the right down to Western Forest Products Mainline. Turn left and you will need to travel about 300 metres out it to Ledge Point Main. Watch for logging equipment Monday through Friday and on the occasional weekends, so be very cautious on this short piece of travel. Ledge Point Main does not at present have any logging traffic but can have a lot of Muggle traffic (vehicles, quads and motor cycles).

Lots of different rock formations along the way on the beach. As well Bald Eagles and other wildlife (martins, bears etc.) can be seen out here. You also have waters edge view of Sointula, on Malcolm Island and Port McNeill as well as a view up Broughton and down Johnstone Straits. Bring a camera and a picnic lunch. There is a picnic table near the point

Cache is now reduced in size to a lock and lock container and will only hold some small trade items. It currently contains some small trade trinkets. Bring a writing instrument in case pencils are missing.
