Our intention in bringing you to this
spot is to take a short walk on the Arnold Lauriente Pathway, which
parallels the Highway 3B through Warfield. We suggest you park at N
49° 05.778 W 117° 44.664 (parking for the Haley Park Complex).
Directly across Bingay Road, is a paved path heading uphill next to
the highway. There are two caches to be found along this path;
Mickey Mouse Town and Dead Poet’s Society. You can also park in the
business area along the highway, but will have to walk back “up” to
your car.
This path started as the roadbed for
the Columbia and Western Railway, which was later bought and
upgraded by the CPR. This rail line ferried passengers, ore, and
supplies to and from Rossland to Trail Landing during the mining
years. In its heyday, passengers could catch the train to Trail
from Rossland three times per day. Passenger service halted on this
line in November of 1936. The CPR finally abandoned the line and
removed the steel in 1966.

Along with the cute cottage style of
homes and beautiful gardens in this village, the street names also
add to the charm. In the late 1930’s, the Cominco Mining and
Smelting Company laid out a subdivision to house its growing
workforce, and built 150 low cost cottages. To give the subdivision
an air of sophistication, the streets were given names of famous
poets. Kipling, Dickens, Shakespeare; they’re all here. For you
Scots, there’s even a Burns Avenue;
A prince
can mak a belted knight,
A marquis,
duke, an a' that!
But an
honest man's aboon his might -
Guid
faith, he mauna fa' that!
For a'
that, an a' that,
Their
dignities, an a' that,
The pith o
sense an pride o worth.
Are higher
rank than a' that.

- Robert
Burns, A Man's A Man for A' That
The path runs from Webster Elementary School, past town
hall, to the “business district”. After you have found both caches,
why not treating yourself to an ice cream or coffee from the Shell,
the Warfield Food Market or the Cornerstone Café? This is a small
cache container – think small if trading items. Also, please don’t
treat these as “park and grabs”; there is no safe way to do so.
Have fun!
