Barking at the Devils Traditional Cache

Close by is the home of the 45 year old community youth sports organization, the Montgomery Youth Hockey Association, the Blue Devils. Established in 1963 as the Wheaton Ice Hockey Club, MYHA has been part of the community for so long that boys that grew up in the club are now dads coaching in the club. The club boasts a nice house hockey league, a Tier II boys travel hockey team in the Capital Beltway Hockey League, a girls travel hockey team, and an association with a Tier I travel hockey team, Team Maryland. MYHA is a great example of a volunteer non profit organization supporting the community’s youth.

This is a hockey card trading cache. Bring some hockey trading cards and trade for a Jeff Halpern (who grew up playing hockey in Potomac, MD)!

The cache is located in the Rock Creek Regional Park, adding to the collection of good caches in this park (Godzilla would make a good hockey player). The park has an excellent bike path cutting through it along the stream. But the bike path is on the other side of the creek from the cache, and the creek is deep enough that it is not easy to cross – you will need to find a bridge or something. And there is no hiking trail to this cache. And it is located on a marvelously steep hill. Oh, and the deer in the park are all hockey players and will check you if they see you!

Note: You may not want to park at the ice rink. Between the ice rink and neighboring indoor sports-plexes, there is insufficient parking – there are lots of “Parking for Customers of this Facility Only” signs. It is probably best to park in Rock Creek Park and hike it in. I will provide some parking waypoints.
