The cache is a small camoed pill bottle with enough room for the log book and pencil. Watch kids and pets as Mancelona Road does get a little traffic.
In 2007, my buddy and I put our kayaks in at this spot and went all the way to Lake Michigan. It took 8 days of paddling to travel the 200 miles of river. I fished and geocached the entire trip.
If your thinking of kayaking the Upper Manistee, then from here it took about 4 hours to reach the Deward landing and it was a rough go. However, if you were to put in at Deward then the river stays pretty open for as long as you need as locals maintain the tree fall and beaver dams.
In 2008, I completed my goal of completing the five Otsego County rivers: Au Sable, Manistee, Pigeon, Sturgeon, and Black. I started on each river in Otsego County and made it to the Great Lakes. Lots of paddling (520 miles), camping, and many memories.
