McEwan Prairie Forest Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Along many state and county roads weaving throughout privately owned forested land, signs have been constructed noting the land owner, and dates of harvest, planting, thinning, and that of the next expected harvest.
In the nearly 40 years I've lived in Olympia and traveled throughout the Olympic Peninsula, I have seen these signs spring up all over. It's amazing how quickly the forests have returned through agressive replanting efforts and also what mother nature chooses to cycle through before Douglas Fir returns as the dominate tree. From time to time, I will choose a few of these sign locations to expand the cache database. These will be simple drive-by hides. In many spots, parking will be quite limited. Please don't get stuck in soft shoulders. This is kinda like the forest version of the common strip mall or department store "skirt lifter". This sign contains the following information: Green Diamond Resource Company McEwan Prairie Forest Planted 1981 Thinned 2004. For several years, Green Diamond (formerly Simpson Timber) has given permission for geocaches to be placed on it's lands providing all rules for access are followed.
