Geocache Description:

Historic Arltunga Goldfields - old mines, buildings and beautiful camping

Come out and visit Arltunga Historic Reserve, 110km east of Alice Springs on a good gravel road. Stop in at the Visitor's Centre to read up on the history (imagine living here in a tent when it's 40 degrees!). Then take a trip to the Government Works and explore the old buildings, some of which have been restored. Then, visit the Old Police Station and find the cache.

You can also climb into a real mine that's been restored for visitors at the MacDonnell Range Mine, just a kilometre on from the Old Police Station.

There's also White Range Mine, Joker's Gorge and a fossicking area nearby. You can camp (bush camping only) in the creek near the fossicking area, outside the Reserve.
