Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed with the kind permission of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust.
It is a 1 litre lock and lock box and is sited in the area known as Baker’s Pit. In common with our other countryside caches, it can be rather wet and muddy underfoot - you have been warned! Another added bonus with this cache - you will need gloves! Gorse is prickly!

Baker’s Pit is a large area of heath land, owned by Cornwall Wildlife Trust with some areas of pasture that are managed by local farmers, therefore please be aware that you will sometimes come across grazing cattle so please do keep your dog on a lead and make sure that you close all gates properly behind you.
The site’s history of china clay working has left its mark and in addition to the buildings, habitats have been created such as open water in the large flooded clay pit. Baker's Pit is the amalgamation of several of the early clay pits of the Towednack area, including Bedlam Green, Bohemia, Little Bohemia, Georgia, Little Georgia and Polhigey. These works date back to the early 19th century.

The whitethroat is a common summer visitor, Merlin, hen harrier and peregrine all visit this reserve during the winter months and we heard a cuckoo as we were walking to the cache site. The parking is limited here, please do not block the gates.
