Near to this place, there once stood a castle called Grahame’s Walls, so named because it belonged to John De Graham, who gave the patronage of the Church Of Newlands to Dunfermline Abbey in 1317. In the 17th century, the castle must have been in ruins. Documents show that the stones from the castle were used to build the new Newlands Church Of Scotland and Whiteside Tower. Nothing can be seen of the castle these days, but Grahame’s Walls still exist in the form of this beautiful church. There is parking very close to the cache.
The old church and cemetery is accessible to the public, and I highly recommend it. It’s only a short walk from the new church. There are often horses in the field, but there is also a gate to allow walkers access and an information board at the entrance to the churchyard.
