The story behind Coulombe Pond goes like this; in the 1940’s 50’s local neighborhood families constructed a dam in a natural valley with a small stream feeding into it. The dam was constructed with a rock and dirt berm and the pond was several feet deep. It was a beautiful local swimming hole. Here is where the story takes a strange twist. Three days after the pond was opened some youngster drowned. The local neighbors who built the dam were very upset over this. They went up to the swimming hole and used dynamite and blew up the dam. Today remnants of the dam can be found very close to the cache.
When you walk up to the vehicle barrier gate [usually left open] turn around and take a look at an unusual view of Berlin to the East. If you find the cache please take a precaution to replace exactly as you found it. Enjoy the hike, view, pond and especially the cache.
FTF gets a genuine miniature State of New Hampshire Conservation Officer ~ Fish and Game pin.
