Geocache Description:


Park Island is 35 hectares of sports grounds, cemeteries and easy track walks with trees and a stream. In 1931 Napier and surrounds were struck by a destructive and deadly magnitude 7.8 earthquake that raised the land approx two metres in 2.5 minutes of shaking and rolling. Prior to this, the Park Island hills were on the edge of the estuary.

At GZ there was once a shelly beach and locals used to sail across from Napier to picnic here. Hard to imagine now when you look towards Napier across all the houses and roads.

Nowadays there are plenty of muggles (two and four legged) in the area so you will need to be vigilant. No really, this is a major muggle area. If you visit this cache on a Saturday morning you will witness hoards of children and adults playing various sports so parking can be at a premium.

This multi cache shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes round trip. Waypoints are just labels attached to stuff. You don't need to go up and over anything as it is now all flat walking/running. Cache is a small camouflaged lunchbox. When returning to your car, the quickest route is between the two hills.
