Geocache Description:

Let’s Go Green ……

Kenilworth Greenway, the former railway line linking Kenilworth Junction to Berkswell has now taken on a new lease of life following a £50 million Lottery grant. Work started quickly in January 2008 and following cutting back and clearing of undergrowth a new technique was used to lay a hard surface. The surface is suitable for walkers and cyclists, who are actively encouraged to use the route, but not motorcyclists. Horse riders are also welcomed but must follow their own bridle path to the side of the hard surface. There are mounting blocks for riders at each of the new access points that have been installed and riders must obtain a permit before using the route.
If you look carefully you can find some industrial archaeological links to the routes former role as a railway line. The railway branch line from Berkswell to Kenilworth Junction was opened in 1884 (It was finally closed and track lifted in 1972/1973). Left to itself, the old railway became a wildlife corridor. Hawthorn, birch and other plants quickly took hold and softened the edges, animals and birds found cover for dens and nests. People also found a traffic free route to and from Crackley Wood where, if you were quiet, you might see a fox. There are various access points along the route.
If you fancy a bit of a stroll along the Greenway parking can be found at N52.22.008 W001 34.963 but it is possible to park nearer to the cache location. Of course, you must first solve the trademark wykenwizard and Auntie Clockwise easy-peasy quiz.
The cache can be found just off the beaten track. It is a small lockable plastic container within a camo bag and contains the usual small goodies for swaps. Please ensure it remains well hidden.
